Allium protensum


Allium protensum
30 (60), makes a huge, lax umbel (up to 15cm across!) of bell shaped flowers with long pedicels, shorter as in Allium schubertii, yet in a very unusual greenish brown color and a contrasting greenish middle stripe on each petal. The stout, very broad stems vary greatly in height an emerge from the center of broad basal leaves. From open spots in the Serawschan Mountains in Uzbekistan and central Asia to N Afghanistan at some 1.600 to 3.000m. For a sunny spot in any very well drained soil. A very rare and showy Allium species. V-VI.
