Scilla peruviana
20 (30)cm, native from spring moist grasslands in south-western Europe. Makes a large leaf rosette with dark green, broad leaves and a large, dense inflorescence of deep bluish-purple (rarely pure white) flowers. Plant bulbs rather deep in any well drained, but humus rich soil in full sun. A most ornamental and fully hardy species, in very cold climates give some winter protection (e.g. a dry mulch layer) or cultivate in a frostfree greenhouse or cold wintergarden. V-VI.
