Sempervivum tectorum ssp. alpinum
15 (20)cm ø, a most beautiful, yet rarely seen larger subspecies. Has unique dark grayish green, oblong-lanceolate, very succulent leaves, shaded in dark purplish at the base and sometimes all over the rosette, if plants are grown in a sunny and rather dry spot. Tall flowering stem with numerous, quite large, intense pink to purplish-pink flowers. Native of the central Alps (Switzerland: Mont d'Orge at Sion in the Val D'Hérens, in the Vuache and in the S Jura). One of the most ornamental species for any well drained soil in a full sun. VII-VIII.
