Trichosanthes cucumerina var. anguinea (Snake Gourd)
300 (500)cm, Snake Gourd is an annual twining vine with most decorative, feathered, pure white flowers above broadly angled or lobed leaves. The elongated fruits resemble a snake and vary in length from 1 to 5 feet, and turn to bright scarlet with maturity. Very young, peeled fruits (about 1 week old) are used like squash in the Asian cookery. Native from India to Pakistan. For any humus rich, fertile, well drained soil in full sun with plenty of water in the growing season at a minimum of some 20°C (optimum 25°). USDA Climate Zone 10.
